How to Handle Translation with the AI Translate Addon

Learn how to use the AI Translate addon for Slider Revolution and translate your modules into multiple languages using either the built-in AI engine or the WPML plugin.

Before You Begin

To use AI powered translation in Slider Revolution 7 you will need:

  • A registered Slider Revolution license.
  • The AI Translate addon installed and enabled. See Install the AI Translate Addon below.
  • For the WPML workflow only: the WPML plugin with its String Translation module installed and at least one secondary language configured. The Media Translation module is optional and enables image translations.

Note WPML is a dedicated translation plugin created by onTheGoSystems.

Install the AI Translate Addon

The AI Translate addon needs to be enabled individually on each module you want to translate.

Step 1: Open the module in the Slider Revolution editor.

Step 2: In the Top Bar, click the Settings button 1.

Step 3: In the Settings Sidebar, click Addons 1.

Step 4: Locate the AI Translate listing and click on it to expand it.

Step 5: Click Add to Module 1.

The AI Translate settings panel is now accessible in the Settings Sidebar. Go to Top Bar -> Settings -> AI Translate to open it.

Note that when WPML is active on your site, Slider Revolution enables the AI Translate addon for new modules automatically. You do not need to add it manually in that case.

Translating with SR7 AI Translate

When WPML is not installed, or when you want to use the built-in AI engine, you can translate your module directly within the Slider Revolution editor.

Step 1: Open the module in the editor. If you have not done so already, add the AI Translate addon via the Addons panel (see Install the AI Translate Addon above).

Step 2: Open the AI Translate settings panel (Top Bar -> Settings -> AI Translate).

Step 3: If WPML is installed, confirm the Translation Engine setting is set to SR7 AI Translate Addon.

Step 4: In the AI Translate settings panel, use the Module Languages setting to select every language you want the module translated into.

Step 5: In the Translation Mode setting, choose how the translation run should behave:

  • Translate All Languages: Translates all selected languages, overwriting any existing translations.
  • Translate Missing Only: Only generates translations for languages that do not yet have any.

Step 6: Click Run Translation.

The AI translates every text layer in the module into each selected language.

Step 7: To review or refine a translation, select a text layer on the canvas or in the Layers sidebar. Open the AI Translate design panel by entering Design mode in the Right Sidebar and clicking the AI Translate tab.

Each active language has its own section showing the translated text. You can edit it directly, or click Translate this Language button 1 to regenerate just that language for the selected layer.

To preview a language on the editor stage, use the Show in Editor setting in the AI Translate settings panel, or click the In Editor button, visible when hovering over a language’s section in the design panel.

Step 8: Save the module.

On the frontend, the module serves the language that matches the visitor’s active site language.

Translating with WPML

When WPML is active, Slider Revolution detects it and handles module translations through WPML’s workflow.

The Translation Engine setting (Top Bar -> Settings -> AI Translate) is set to WPML by default for new modules, meaning languages and translations are managed in WPML rather than the Slider Revolution editor. The Module Languages setting and Run Translation button are not shown in the editor in this mode.

If you want to switch a module to the built-in AI engine instead, open the AI Translate settings panel and change the Translation Engine setting to SR7 AI Translate Addon.

The steps you follow depend on whether WPML’s Translate Everything Automatically (TEA) mode is enabled. You can check this in WPML -> Settings.

Translate Everything Automatically (TEA)

When TEA is enabled, module strings are registered and sent for translation automatically in the background whenever you save the module.

Step 1: Open your module in the Slider Revolution editor, build it as you normally would, then save it.

All translatable strings are registered with WPML automatically on save.

Step 2: Insert the module into a post or page using the Slider Revolution block, then publish the page.

Publishing triggers the translation process. Once the page is translated, the module displays the correct language version on the frontend automatically. This applies to every slide.

Translating Manually (TEA Disabled)

When TEA is not enabled, you select individual modules for translation from the WPML Translation Dashboard.

Step 1: Open your module in the Slider Revolution editor and save it.

Saving registers the module’s strings with WPML and makes the module appear in the Translation Dashboard.

Step 2: In your WordPress admin area, go to WPML -> Translation Management.

Step 3: In the Translation Dashboard, locate your module.

It appears in the Slider Revolution section 1, listed under its module title 2.

Step 4: Select the module and choose how you want to translate it. Options include Translate Automatically, Translate Myself, and others.

Step 5: Click Translate content.

Step 6: If you chose Translate Myself, go to the Translation Tasks tab and click Translate next to the module.

The Advanced Translation Editor (ATE) opens.

Step 7: Translate each string of the module, then confirm.

The translations appear on your website automatically. You do not need to re-open or re-save the module.

Good to Know

Two clear modes.

A module is either translated by WPML or by AI Translate. You can switch the engine in the module’s AI Translate panel when WPML is active.

Icons are not translated.

Icon-only layers, such as social or arrow icons, are skipped automatically. This keeps them from cluttering your translation list.

Renaming is safe.

Renaming a slider does not break existing WPML translations. These translations are linked to the module, not its title.

Thumbnails auto-update.

Changing a slide’s background updates its thumbnail automatically, unless you set one by hand. This keeps the slide list and dashboard current.

Troubleshooting

Translations don’t appear on the website in WPML mode.

The module was likely never saved after WPML was activated. Open the module, save it to register its strings with WPML, then translate them in the Translation Dashboard.

The module is not listed in the WPML Translation Dashboard.

Its strings have not been registered yet. Open the module and save it. Registration happens automatically on save.

The module shows the original language only in SR7 AI Translate mode.

Either the target language has not been translated, or the page is not communicating the active language to the module. Make sure the language is selected under the Module Languages setting (Top Bar -> Settings -> AI Translate), that a translation has been run for it, and that your site is configured to serve per-language pages.

Some text is missing a translation.

Text added after the last translation run will not be covered automatically. In SR7 AI Translate mode, run Translate Missing Only to fill in the gaps. In WPML mode, save the module so the new string is registered, then translate it in the Translation Dashboard.

The Module Languages setting and Run Translation button are not visible in the editor.

The module’s Translation Engine setting (Top Bar -> Settings -> AI Translate) is set to WPML. In this mode, languages and translations are managed in WPML. If you want to use the built-in AI engine instead, change the Translation Engine setting to SR7 AI Translate Addon.
