To access the Image Editor, first make sure an Image layer is present and selected.

Then in the Right Sidebar click the Design icon 1 to enter Design Mode, open the Layer panel 2, and to the right of the Image Content section label click the Edit Image pen icon 3.

In the Image Editor you can crop, straighten, transform and colour grade the layer’s image, then apply the result to the Image layer as a new image.

Image Preview Section

The Image Preview section displays the image with every current adjustment rendered live. The preview updates as each setting is changed, and reflects cropping result if a crop has been applied.

Crop Overlay

  • Visible when Composition section is expanded.
  • Hidden when Composition section is collapsed.

Sets the area of the image to keep. Drag any of the eight handles on the crop rectangle’s corners and edges to resize it, and drag inside the rectangle to reposition it. A rule of thirds grid is drawn over the crop area to assist composition.

Image Editor Sidebar

In the Image Editor sidebar you will find a collection of image adjustment tools, grouped into collapsible sections, along with the buttons that close the editor or apply your changes. Only one section can be expanded at a time.

Action Buttons

Four buttons are available to you throughout editing, whichever section you are working in. Use them to reset a section’s settings, apply your finished edits to the image, or leave the editor without applying anything.

Reset (Button)

  • Visible when at least one setting in that section has been changed from its default.
  • Hidden when every setting in that section is at its default.

Every section of the sidebar, (except Presets), has its own Reset button that returns each of that section’s settings to its default value.

The button appears in a section’s heading only after a setting inside it has been changed, and it stays available while the section is collapsed, so a section’s adjustments can be undone without expanding it again.

Cancel (Button)

Click to close the Image Editor and discard every adjustment made in the session. The layer’s image is left untouched.

Save and Replace (Button)

Click to render the image with all current adjustments applied and use the result in the currently selected Image layer.

Note the original image file is left untouched. The edited version is saved as a separate duplicate image under its own name, and the layer is switched to use that new file.

Close (Button)

Click the close icon in the top right corner of the Image Editor to close it and discard every adjustment made in the session, exactly as Cancel does.

Composition Section (Expander)

In the Composition section crop the image, straighten or rotate it, flip it, apply a perspective transform, and set the output pixel dimensions.

Done (Button)

  • Visible when Composition section is expanded.
  • Hidden when Composition section is collapsed.

Click to commit every change made in the Composition section and collapse it.

Rotation (Number, degrees, range, slider)

  • Visible when Composition section is expanded.
  • Hidden when Composition section is collapsed.

Set the amount by which the image is rotated.

Options:

  • -45: Minimum. The image is rotated 45 degrees anti-clockwise.
  • 45: Maximum. The image is rotated 45 degrees clockwise.
Flip X (Button)

  • Visible when Composition section is expanded.
  • Hidden when Composition section is collapsed.

Click to flip the image horizontally.

Flip Y (Button)

  • Visible when Composition section is expanded.
  • Hidden when Composition section is collapsed.

Click to flip the image vertically.

Rotate Left (Button)

  • Visible when Composition section is expanded.
  • Hidden when Composition section is collapsed.

Click to rotate the image 90 degrees anti-clockwise. Each further click rotates it another 90 degrees.

Perspective (Toggle Button)

  • Visible when Composition section is expanded.
  • Hidden when Composition section is collapsed.

Set whether the perspective tool is active.

When active, four draggable corner points are drawn over the preview.

Adjusting the points allows modification of the image’s perspective.

Perspective modification works in two stages.

First, ptionally reposition the perspective tool’s corners to define the starting perspective, then when ready click the Lock Rect button.

Then, drag the perspective tool’s corners to change the image’s perspective.

Lock Rect (Toggle Button)

  • Visible when Composition section is expanded, and Perspective is active.
  • Hidden when Composition section is collapsed, or Perspective is not active.

Locks in the starting shape for the perspective transform, moving perspective mode from its first stage to its second.

Crop Ratio (Button Group)

  • Visible when Composition section is expanded.
  • Hidden when Composition section is collapsed.

Constrain the crop rectangle to a fixed aspect ratio.

Options:

  • free: Leave the crop rectangle unconstrained, so width and height can be dragged independently.
  • pic: Constrain the crop to the image’s own aspect ratio.
  • 1:pic: Constrain the crop to the inverse of the image’s own aspect ratio, giving a portrait crop of a landscape image.
  • 1:1: Constrain the crop to a square.
  • 4:3: Constrain the crop to a 4:3 landscape ratio.
  • 16:9: Constrain the crop to a 16:9 landscape ratio.
  • 3:4: Constrain the crop to a 3:4 portrait ratio.
  • 9:16: Constrain the crop to a 9:16 portrait ratio.
Image Size (Number, pixels)

  • Visible when Composition section is expanded.
  • Hidden when Composition section is collapsed.

Set the pixel dimensions the edited image is written out at, using the width field on the left and the height field on the right. Both fields default to the dimensions of the original image.

  • 1: Maximum. The lightest areas of the image are intensified as far as the setting allows.
Bloom (Number, range, slider)

  • Visible when Lights section is expanded.
  • Hidden when Lights section is collapsed.

Set the amount of glow spread outward from the brightest areas of the image. Positive values add a soft glow around highlights. Negative values apply the inverse, darkening the area immediately around the brightest points so highlights read as tighter and harder edged.

Options:

  • -1: Minimum. The area around the brightest points is darkened as far as the setting allows, tightening the highlights.
  • 1: Maximum. The strongest glow is spread outward from the brightest areas.

Colors Section (Expander)

In the Colors section adjust the colour balance and intensity of the image.

Temperature (Number, range, slider)

  • 1: Maximum. Every colour in the image is intensified as far as the setting allows.
Sepia (Number, range, slider)

  • Visible when Colors section is expanded.
  • Hidden when Colors section is collapsed.

Set the strength of a sepia tone applied over the image. Positive values collapse colours onto a warm brown axis, giving the desaturated look of a sepia photograph. Negative values apply the inverse, pushing colours away from that axis so the image cools towards blue and its colours become more saturated.

Options:

  • -1: Minimum. Colours are pushed as far as possible away from the sepia axis, cooling the image towards blue and increasing its saturation.
  • 1: Maximum. The image becomes a fully sepia toned, desaturated warm brown.

Effects Section (Expander)

In the Effects section apply local contrast, grain and edge darkening to the image.

Clarity (Number, range, slider)

  • Visible when Effects section is expanded.

Noise (Number, range, slider)

  • Visible when Effects section is expanded.
  • Hidden when Effects section is collapsed.

Set how much fine detail in the image is smoothed or accentuated. Positive values smooth fine detail, softening any grain or sensor noise along with genuine texture. Negative values apply the inverse, accentuating fine detail so texture and any existing grain appear sharper.

Options:

  • -1: Minimum. Fine detail is accentuated as far as the setting allows, giving the image its sharpest and most textured appearance.
  • 1: Maximum. Fine detail is smoothed as far as the setting allows, giving the image its softest appearance.
Vignette (Number, range, slider)

  • Visible when Effects section is expanded.
  • Hidden when Effects section is collapsed.

Set the strength of the darkening applied towards the edges and corners of the image.

Options:

  • -1: Minimum. The edges and corners of the image are brightened as far as the setting allows.
  • 1: Maximum. The edges and corners of the image are darkened as far as the setting allows.

Curve Section (Expander)

In the Curve section remap the tonal range of the image using a tone curve, either across all colours at once or per colour channel.

Channel (Tab Select)

  • Visible when Curve section is expanded.
  • Hidden when Curve section is collapsed.

Set which colour channel the tone curve below is editing. Each channel keeps its own curve.

Options:

  • all colors: Edit a single curve applied to the red, green and blue channels together.
  • red: Edit the curve for the red channel only.
  • green: Edit the curve for the green channel only.
  • blue: Edit the curve for the blue channel only.
Curve Graph (Curve Editor)

  • Visible when Curve section is expanded.
  • Hidden when Curve section is collapsed.

Remap the tones of the selected channel by dragging the five control points on the graph. The horizontal axis represents input tone from black on the left to white on the right, and the vertical axis represents the output tone each input is mapped to. Dragging a point upward brightens that part of the tonal range and dragging it downward darkens it.

Filters Section (Expander)

In the Filters section apply a preset colour grade to the image in a single click.

Filter (Button Group)

  • Visible when Filters section is expanded.
  • Hidden when Filters section is collapsed.

Apply a named preset colour grade to the image. Each filter sets a combination of colour and tonal adjustments in one step.

Options:

  • aden: Apply a soft, desaturated grade with lifted shadows and a warm cast.
  • crema: Apply a muted, low contrast grade with creamy midtones.
  • clarendon: Apply a high contrast grade with cooled highlights and intensified colour.
  • gingham: Apply a flat, washed out grade with a slight warm tint.
  • juno: Apply a warm grade that pushes reds and cools the shadows.
  • lark: Apply a bright grade with reduced reds and lifted exposure.
  • ludwig: Apply a lightly desaturated grade with raised contrast.
  • moon: Apply a black and white grade with a cool cast.
  • reyes: Apply a faded, dusty grade with lowered contrast and saturation.
  • polaroid: Apply an instant film grade with shifted colours and lifted blacks.
